Entries for the weanling heifer show and sale in Carrick-on-Shannon on 22 and 23 November, hit the cut-off point of 400 cattle before midnight on Thursday 1 October.

Entries for the event only opened on Thursday morning, leaving many exhibitors missing out.

Never before has there been such a level of interest in the event, which keeps growing year on year.

Commenting on the situation, secretary of the Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society, Lourda McGowan, said: "Unfortunately, there are exhibitors disappointed with this but there is nothing the committee can do as it's an automated system."

Breeders are asked to refrain from ringing the show office regarding further entries for the weanling heifer show and sale as the system is now closed.

Entries for the show and sale of bull weanlings and senior cattle on Monday 16 November are still open and will close on 14 October.
