Camera at the Mart: Friesian bulls selling from €30 to €70/head
Numbers of calves sold in marts are slowly starting to increase. The best demand is for stronger bull calves, with light-boned calves selling from €30 to €50/head.
The number of calves on offer in marts is slowly starting to increase. Mart managers are reporting an increase in the number of three-week-old calves on offer.
Young two-week-old Friesian bulls are selling for just under €50/head. Stronger three-week-old bulls are selling for close to €70/head on average, while four-week-old calves are making just slightly more than this.
Light-boned calves

There are reports of poor-quality, small and light-boned calves selling below €30/head in some cases.
Angus bulls are selling from €180 to €240/head, depending on quality, but the number on offer is low. Angus heifers are selling mainly from €150/head to €170/head. Hereford heifers are selling from €150 to in excess of €200/head, while Hereford bulls are selling from €230/head to €280/head.
