With two wins and a second to his credit, along with both the Leading Rider and Leading Speed Rider awards, Tipperary’s Greg Broderick certainly had a brilliant time of it at last week’s Balmoral Show.

He opened with a Wednesday win in the Clive Richardson two-phase on Molly and Veronica Tracy’s nine-year-old Numero Uno mare Daify. With Daify, he also came second in Friday’s AON Accumulator. Winning that was Neal Fearon on the Luidam mare, Magic Cuidam.

Broderick brought out his Louth Grand Prix winner Charmeur by Calvaro Z to win the Balmoral International Stakes. He had one of six double clears in the 27 starter event to win ahead of Vanessa Mannix of Canada and Britain’s young rider, Annabel Shields on the Mr Blue gelding Wet Wet Wet. Shields went on to win Friday’s Barclay and Bottle Green £22,300 Grand Prix ahead of Ireland’s RDS Bursary winner Sophie Dalm on Remake Lande. In an exciting jump-off Dalm, drawn second last to go, was in the lead with a clear in 45.39 seconds. But last in, Shields found two more seconds in it for the win.

In Thursday’s Red Mills jump-off Edward Doyle was the winner on the 11-year-old stallion, Derryinver Luxury Cruise, ahead of Sven Hadley on Suma’s Taloubet. Australia’s Jake Hunter won the Rydale Power and Speed. In the Amateurs, Karl Kee and Sheikh Aamir Mirdad were the winners.
