Tommy Liston from Ardagh in Co Limerick hosted the dispersal sale of his Cooltomin Angus herd in Kilmallock last Saturday, with prices peaking at €4,700.

Taking the top price was the cow and calf pairing of Cooltomin Pearl Lucky 1300 and Cooltomin Tina 1392.

The three-year-old dam is a daughter of the highly-rated Netherton Americano and sold scanned in-calf and due December to Mogeely Joe.

Her October 2020-born heifer calf's sire is the successful Canadian AI bull HF Rebel.

Both mother and daughter boast five stars on the replacement index.

First-calver

Next best at €4,400 was Cooltomin Roos 1330.

This September 2018-born first-calver is a daughter of Te Mania Berkley and from the highly sought-after Ellen Erica cow family.

With five stars down the line, she sold alongside her January-born bull calf, which is a son of stock bull Goulding No Limits.

Cooltomin Rebel 1341 was the top-priced calf heifer at €3,800.

Securing a price of €3,800 was the in-calf heifer Cooltomin Rebel 1341.

This two-year-old heifer is a daughter of HF Rebel, with Cornamuckla Lord Hardy and Bosullow Elmark also in the back breeding.

Some back and forth bidding quickly got this powerful, five-star heifer to one of the top prices of the day.

A further seven cow and calf pairings hit €3,000 or more, making for a fitting end to Tommy Liston's nearly 40 years of breeding.
