Summer rolls in and along comes another batch of emerging country talent. Jordan Mogey is from Ballymoney in Co Antrim and here in Country Sound we are picking him out as one to watch.

He is a 20-year-old whose respect and affection for the real roots of country music knows no bounds.

Jordan Mogey reconnects us to the days of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard and so many of the greats of the golden era of country music. One listen to his version of I’ll Leave This Old World Loving You is enough to stop you in your tracks. Here is the arrival of a new star.

“I grew up listening to and exploring music, and watching westerns and old movies. I love the old country, mostly ballads, in the honky-tonk styles of Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Webb Pierce and Red Foley.

“I have a list of influences that is miles long, but my two main influences are the great Johnny Cash and Vern Gosdin, while George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and many more are right up there too,” says Jordan.

The young Antrim man is taking things in his stride.

“I’m getting a great response to my music video for Is It Raining At Your House, which has been shown on the Phil Mack Show on Sky 191. You can find it on YouTube too. I’m currently working on my next video for So Doggone Lonesome and a debut album is on the way.”

The influence of Johnny Cash is simply inescapable when you look at Jordan. From the way he carries the guitar to the black and while profile photos, the spirit of Cash walks the line for this young man from Ballymoney.

“This is the music that moves me emotionally. I feel a deep connection with it, more than anything in the world. I’ve learned everything I know from my heroes and owe everything to them.

“I never think too far ahead. I just want to make good music that’s sincere and honest, music that touches people and helps them through whatever they are going through. To me that’s country music, it’s real life.”
