My Country Favourites sees the man from Omagh touch base with the heartlands of real country music, in a move that will be warmly welcomed by many of his ardent followers.

“Throughout my recording career, I have been fortunate enough to have been able to record songs and material from different genres of music, which I am blessed to be able to do,” says Dominic.

“I have listened to so many great country music artists in my lifetime and I have been fortunate enough to have shared the stage with a few as well. Special highlights include Charley Pride, Tammy Wynette and Kenny Rogers. It has been a real privilege for me and you always learn something from the great artists who have graced so many stages over the years.”

The new album, produced by Peter Ware, features studio inputs from Ireland, the UK and Nashville. Among the musicians featured on My Country Favourites are Charlie Arkins, Richard Nelson, Wayne Golden, Sarah Jory, Pete Ware, Tim Grogan, Danny Parks, Jimmy Carter, Dane Bryant, Steve Hinson and Michael Walter. The backing vocalists are Carrie and Leanne Ben, and Charlotte Henry.

Dominic goes back in time to sample the beauty of such classics as Me and Bobby McGee, Coward of the County, All I Have To Offer You Is Me, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, Hello Darlin’, My Heart Skips a Beat, and Love’s Gonna Live Here again.

These numbers provide a ringing endorsement of his respect for such icons as Charley Pride, Buck Owens, Conway Twitty, Kris Kristofferson, Kenny Rogers and Charlie Rich.

Also included are Light of a Clear Blue Morning (Dolly Parton), Seven Spanish Angels and Always On My Mind (Willie Nelson), Write This Down (George Straight) and Friends in Low Places (Garth Brooks). The closing song, You Don’t Know Me, features a duet with Lisa Stanley, whose own album, Memories, also went on general release last week.

Dominic is just concluding a Scottish tour with Lisa Stanley, which took them to various venues, including Motherwell. Lisa is the daughter of renowned accordion virtuoso, Louth native Fintan Stanley, and the late country legend, Maisie McDaniel from Sligo.

Dominic has also performed a series of regular concert shows with Meath native Mary Duff.

Outside of the showbusiness scene, Dominick takes a keen interest in sport and especially in GAA. He is a regular in Croke Park when the Tyrone senior team feature on the big days.

“Like the late great Gene Stuart and others, I have a great regard for what sport does in bringing people together and, naturally enough, I support my home county of Tyrone. Big match days in Clones and Croke Park are always special.

“My Country Favourites is a selection of some of the songs from my favourite American country singers from over the years. I really enjoyed the experience of being back in the studio and getting the chance to sing and share some of these fabulous country songs. They surely have reminded me of some wonderful times in my life. It has been an emotional trip,” says Dominic. CL
