Overseas music holidays have blossomed in the last decade or so, but the man who started it all was Gerry Flynn of Enjoy Travel.

The Mayo native, who resided with his family in Blackburn, began with a trip to the south of Spain in the mid-1990s.

Demand soon soared and charter flights were organised, with southern Spain and the Algarve in Portugal becoming the focal points for Enjoy Travel.

Then along came the Fleadh Ibiza where Enjoy Travel has brought thousands of revellers to the Mediterranean island for more than 10 years.

The next major country, Irish and set dancing venture by Gerry and his company takes place in Torremolinos towards the end of April. Enjoy Travel specialise in 10-day ventures which many people find especially attractive.

They certainly hit the jackpot last year with their first trip to The Amaragua Hotel in Torremolinos, a venue that found huge favour with all the patrons. It is expected that around 800 people will join Enjoy Travel for the return trip to the venue this April.

Among the country artists on the bill are Sean Wilson and Tony Mac, Limelight, Dermot Hegarty, Shawn Cuddy, Johnny Carroll, Pat Jordan, TR Dallas, Declan Aungier, Pat McKenna and Glenshane Country, Liam McLaughlin, Showband Sounds, Seamus Shannon, Irene and Tom, Divine Harmony, The Moynihan Brothers, Dave Lawlor, J&K Country and Mick Mackey and friends. There are also five céili bands and the Galway Bay Jazzmen.

“We were thrilled with the response to last year’s venture,” says Gerry. “People loved the facilities and the town and the direct access to the beach. The sessions went down a treat as always. They are a huge part of the appeal of our shows. The indoor and outdoor dancing sessions were very popular. Many of our patrons also like to sit back, relax and enjoy the music. Others like to visit the local sights and experience life on the Costa del Sol.

“We still have a few places left for the venture which gets underway on 23 April.

“Such is the demand that we are, once again, engaging the services of the Tropicana Hotel, a sister hotel of The Amaragua, and both are alongside each other.

“If needs be, we also have an arrangement with a third hotel beside them. Many of our patrons come back year after year. They look forward to the reunion every year. April in Andalucia is truly special.”
