Batches of 100% Irish chicken breast fillet products from Lidl are being recalled due to the presence of salmonella.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said that the implicated batches are past their use-by dates. However, the products are suitable for home freezing.

Therefore, consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batch.

Advice for consumers

The FSAI is advising consumers not to eat the implicated batches.

Symptoms of salmonella usually develop between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours, the FSAI said.

Diarrhoea is the most common symptom, which can sometimes be bloody.

Other symptoms such as fever, headache and abdominal cramps may occur, with the illness typically lasting four to seven days.

The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness which in some cases may require hospital admission.
