Limerick singer Muriel O’Connor and her musical partner Fran Curry have released the inspirational Wine into Water song. Written by American country singer T Graham Brown, the song is the plea to Jesus from a person battling alcoholism, asking: “Could you help me turn the wine back into water?”
Muriel says recording the song was very emotional but a labour of love.
“Once in a blue moon a special song like this comes along. Fran, as well as being a musician, presents the talk and current affairs show on Tipp FM, and I heard a series of radio features he did with men and women who battled various addictions.
“It seemed to me that the common denominator in their recovery was the notion of handing over their recovery to a higher power. He told me of a song a friend of his had recorded years ago called Wine into Water. The moment I heard the song I knew we had to record it as a duet.”
With Fran on keyboards and taking charge of production, the musicians featured on Wine Into Water are Dave Keary of The Van Morrison Band, Philip Donnelly who has worked with Nanci Griffith, John Prine and Johnny Cash, James Blennerhassett of the Daniel O’Donnell band, and Danny Sheerin on backing vocals.
“I would like to dedicate this song to the wonderful people who have battled and won against addiction but, more importantly, to the beautiful human beings who are now fighting that fight,” says Muriel.
