Cork Film Festival
6-15 November: Ireland’s oldest film festival and Cork’s flagship cultural happening, the Cork Film Festival, lights up and delights the Rebel City in November. In 2015 the Festival celebrates its 60th edition, taking place over 6-15 November. As well as playing a rich selection of the best of contemporary world cinema, it has lively and varied music on film programme and a timely and issues-driven event series. The festival operates out of the Cork Opera House, the Triskel Christchurch and the Gate Cinema. In 2014 there were 242 films screened – including 93 features (24 Irish) from 51 countries. Cooraclare night
in the Capital
6 November: The West Clare parish of Cooraclare/Cree are hosting a fundraising concert at Aras Chronain, Clondalkin where a great night of drama,ceol, dance and song is guaranteed. The concert gets underway at 8 p.m. and is in aid of the Cooraclare 1916 Commemerative fund.

The Johnny Cash Roadshow
10 November: The Johnny Cash Roadshow at Glór in Ennis, Co Clare, will take you through the entire career of the famous singer. All the greatest hits are included, with a display of images from Cash’s life accompanying the music. Fronted by award-winning singer/songwriter Clive John, the show also features Jill Schoonjans as June Carter, Amanda Stone and Louise Masters as the Carter Sisters along with the JC Horns. Nolan & Lambe @ Glór will be open on the evening and you can opt for a pre-show supper before the event for just €16.50. The show starts at 8pm and tickets cost €23. See www.glor.ie
Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill
10 November: Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill will perform together at the Carnegie Arts Centre in Kenmare, Co Kerry, on Tuesday. The pair met in Chicago in the 1980s and formed the jazz/rock/fusion band, Midnight Court. Martin is also known for playing traditional music, and this influences their sound as a duo. The Nina in me
14 November: If you’re in Monaghan on 14 November and you really fancy going to see some sweet, soulful music, then The Nina in Me is the gig for you. The play is a musical adventure where the audience explores the life of singer Karen Underwood and Nina Simone. The production discusses issues of religion, race and sexuality in America and Ireland. Renowned pianist John O’Brien – Karen’s best friend, decade-long partner in music, and winner of an Irish Times Theatre Award for Opera (Pagliacci 2012) – adds delicacy and passion to her music. The Addams Family
14-21 November: Horror of horrors – Wednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love with a nice man from a respectable family. If that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him keep the secret from her mother – something Gomez Addams has never done before. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. Produced by the Portlaoise Musical Society, the show is hosted by the Dunamaise Arts Centre in Laois. Tickets cost €18 for adults and €12 for children. Advanced booking is advised. Tom Crean Antarctic Explorer
11 November: The intrepid Antarctic explorer is brought to life in this dramatic and humorous performance by Aidan Dooley. Hear the riveting true stories of Crean’s Antarctic explorations as one of the few men to serve with both Scott and Shackleton and survive the three famous expeditions. His 36-mile solo trek to save his comrades was described as “the finest feat of individual heroism from the entire age of exploration”. He was subsequently awarded the Albert Medal for his bravery.
