Motoring Drivelines: Suzuki returns Baleno with new thrifty engine

Suzuki will bring back the Baleno model for 2016 with a new and more efficient compact petrol engine.

The debut of the full production version follows on from the iK-2 concept seen at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
New features for the Baleno include the use of a newly developed Suzuki developed 1.0-litre Boosterjet direct injection turbocharged petrol engine that claims to save fuel while delivering driving pleasure. Suzuki claims that fuel efficiency has been improved by reducing engine displacement; output and torque are boosted by using a turbocharger.
Suzuki has aimed to optimise the car’s design layout and various technologies used to reduce weight in order to meet the rigorous size and weight requirements specific to compact cars. The new Baleno is expected to be launched in Ireland in 2016.
