Opel will have a host of new model additions for 2014. Opel’s flagship model, the Insignia, gets a sleeker new design and more economical engines.
The car comes with the new the 2.0 CDTi (140hp) diesel engine that delivers impressive torque of 350Nm (370Nm in overboost). This engine emits just 99g/km CO2, making it the most fuel efficient engine in its class, qualifying for tax band A2 (€180).
The car is fitted with a new multimedia system called IntelliLink. This is integrated with the driver’s smartphone so that the user is always connected to their world. With two visual modes (8-inch touchscreen and 4-inch instrument panel display) and four control modes (touchscreen, voice control, haptic feedback touchpad and steering wheel controls), Opel claims that operating IntelliLink is simple.
There will be a new look Meriva in the Opel range of 2014. This car comes with a new 1.6CDTi diesel engine and IntelliLink with a seven-inch colour touch screen. This engine delivers 136hp and 320 Nm of maximum torque.
It’s also an economical engine consuming just 4.4 litres per 100 kilometres (27km/litre) and emits 116gm/km of CO2. This new diesel engine will also be available in the new Zafira Tourer models and can be expected to be offered in the Astra saloon later in 2014.
Opel’s small car, the Adam, also gets some engine treatment. The car will be fitted with a new 1.0 litre direct injection three-cylinder petrol engine.
The 1.0 petrol turbo engine develops 115hp and delivers high low-end torque of 166 Nm from 1,800 to 4,700 rpm. Opel claims that this engine improves fuel efficiency by 20% compared with Opel’s current 1.4-litre petrol engine.
There will be a new trim design for the Corsa model. The ‘Excite’ five-door model will come with air conditioning, Bluetooth mobile phone system, CD and stereo system with USB plug-in, trip computer and new 16” alloy wheels all as standard. The car will also feature unique seat trims and all at a very competitive price. For model year 2014 vehicles, 2013’s prices will be offered with the Adam from €14,995, a Corsa at €13,795, Astra five-door from €18,995 or saloon from €19,495 and the new Insignia from €24,995. All Opel models come with a five-year warranty and three years free servicing.
