The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) index has risen slightly, up 0.7% to an average price of €3,275/t at the latest auction held on Tuesday 4 August.

This marks the second consecutive increase in GDT price index, with a total of 40,504t of dairy goods traded at the auction.

Butter fared poorly at Tuesday’s auction, suffering a 2.3% price decrease to €4,530/t, as did butter milk powder with a 2.8% price reduction to €3,438.

Anhydrous milk fat was back a modest 0.8%, with this week’s prices coming in at €5,520/t.

Whole milk powder

Prices paid for whole milk powder, which accounts for around half of the tonnage usually traded at the GDT, was up 0.2% to €3,019/t.

Meanwhile, the price paid for skim milk powder, also traded in significant quantities, jumped by 1.2% to €2,827/t.

Cheddar performed more strongly with a 3.8% increase to €3,227/t, while mozzarella was up 1% reaching €3,461/t.

Lactose saw its price increase by 4.1% to an average price of €1,543.

This second consecutive rise in prices at the auction was preceded by three consecutive price drops.
