MUSIC

The Priests

4 January: It feels like no time at all has passed since The Priests came out in 2008. It was that very album that kick-started the many wonderful concerts and melodies over the past 10 years. With their beautiful renditions of Ave Maria, You Raise Me Up and so many more classics, The Priests have captured the hearts of fans worldwide. Fans who travel far and wide to see them understand just how special this 10th anniversary Belfast performance will be. See www.ticketmaster.ie

NYE Indie Disco

31 December: Bringing you an alternative way to spend New Year’s Eve, this year’s indie disco takes place in Waterford’s Central Arts venue. Opening up the night is DJ Daveyboy with a two-hour set. Daveyboy is fresh from spinning tunes at Guilty Pleasures and keeping tabs on the weekly radio show on Open Tempo FM. Headlining this event is the supreme DJ Skye. As always you can expect Central Arts to provide the perfect alternative night out, with indie anthems and floor-fillers, tracks from the past and present, from the likes of Oasis, Blur and many more. Not to mention ringing in the new year with friends and family, this is the ultimate alternative celebration. See www.eventbrite.ie

FILM

Bumblebee

From 21 December: Why not make a trip to the cinema this Christmas? The Transformers spin off, Bumblebee depicts the story of a robot on the run in the year 1987. He takes refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town, where Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers him. This newly released flick will certainly keep you and your family entertained over the week that is the Christmas limbo.

THEATRE

The Great Gatsby

2 January: Following a critically acclaimed 2017 performance, this stunning experience returns. Building on the Gate tradition of ‘page to stage’, this production gives the legendary 1920s jazz story a whole new spin, offering a portal into Fitzgerald’s novel. Transformed into the Gatsby Mansion with all its decadent opulence, audiences will have access to the stage and backstage, allowing them to experience a Gatsby party, with a bar in full swing. 1920s style is encouraged.
