Cappamore was again the host show for this year’s South West Simmental Club calf finals. Despite heavy rain the week preceding the show, high entries were seen in the four club finals. It proved a day to remember for father and son outfit Joe and James Kelly who, along with winning the overall championship, secured three champion sashes and a reserve from four classes.

Awarded the overall championship by judge David Larkin was the duo’s August-born bull Mount Hawkeye. This bull claimed first in the yearling bull class before claiming the overall club finals championship and then subsequently the overall Simmental championship of the show. Sired by Curraheen Dickens and out of homebred Mount Eve. Hawkeye is a grandson of Luddenmore Wishful Polly, an animal who also claimed the overall club final championship.

Following close behind to pick up the reserve overall title was Ronan and John Tuohy with Coose Julia. Born in February, Julia is sired by stock bull Auroch Finn, a full brother to the Highland Show Simmental champion Auroch Eve. Making a good start on her show career, this marked the stylish young heifer’s first day out.
