An investigation has been launched in Northern Ireland following two separate altercations at the Balmoral Show last week.

The Irish Farmers Journal has learned that the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is investigating two separate incidents which occurred last week.

“Police received a report of an altercation in the vicinity of the Halftown Road, Lisburn, on 12 May and another altercation on 11 May. Police made two arrests as a result of the incident on 11 May. Both incidents are not believed to be linked,” the PSNI said in a statement to the Irish Farmers Journal.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that following close of play at last Thursday’s Balmoral Show, a number of farmers got involved in an altercation. Several of the farmers involved were arrested and taken into custody.

A statement from the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society (RUAS), organisers of the Balmoral Show, said that organisers are aware of such an incident.

“Organisers are aware of an incident on 12 May, in the Halftown Road vicinity,” a RUAS spokesperson said.

The PSNI is appealing for information.

“Enquiries are ongoing. However, we would appeal for anyone who witnessed anything to come forward.”
