Millstreet International Horse Trials hosted the latest leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup. The class was presented by Connolly’s Red Mills and was run in the new Olympic Eventing format which allows riders to be substituted.

Ireland had to make use of this substitution early on when Clare Abbott withdrew Euro Prince before the dressage due to injury. This resulted in Ireland incurring 100 penalties.

Sarah Ennis, riding Woodcourt Garrison, and Austin O’Connor, riding Kilpatrick Knight, added time penalties cross country. Substitute rider James O’Haire with China Doll added 20 penalties.

Victory went to France on a score of 114.0 and Britain finished in second. Ireland finished in third on a total score of 203.

Irish riders dominated some of the other classes at Millstreet. The EPS Group CCI1* was won by Patrick Whelan and Killossery Karisma, Brian Morrison and Cassero won section A of the Gallivan Murphy Hooper Dolan CIC1* and section B of the same class went to Stephen Smith riding Hill Patrol.

In international show jumping news Shane Breen finished fourth in the five-star Grand Prix in Valence, France on Sunday. 13 combinations made it into the jump off, where American rider Kent Farrington posted the winning round. Breen was riding the 10-year-old stallion Ipswich Van De Wolfsakker.
