Bonmahon Master Blue to stud
After an impressive start to his career, the eight-year-old stallion Bonmahon Master Blue is returning to Ireland to stand at stud at Bonmahon Sporthorses for eight weeks. Bred by Alan Robertson, he is by the legendary Mister Blue out of Sambia. Under the command of Michael Kelly and Capt Geoff Curran, this Irish Sport Horse has clocked up a series of good results, including a win in Chantilly and a fifth place at Jardy. Earlier in the year he was consistently placed in the Toscana Tour CSI***. His first crop are now five-year-olds and, like their sire, are already starting to impress. His son Bonmahon Blue Canyon finished in eighth place last week in Falsterbo.
Horse Board elections
Both Marion Hughes of Kilkenny and Jennifer Haverty of Nenagh have put their names forward for election to the Irish Horse Board in the South Leinster Region Two. It is a joy to see two such knowledgeable ladies offer to be part of the decision-making process within the sport horse breeding sector.
Ballot papers have already been sent out to Irish Horse Co-op members in the region and it can only be hoped that there will be a strong entry of votes before the closing date of 29 July. Already elected in the Western Region Four is Kathleen Gielty-Cunney of Foxford.
Launching Tommy’s Seat
At noon on Thursday next, the final chapter in the Tommy Brennan Memorial Book Fund will be played out at the RDS as a bench dedicated to his memory will be unveiled in the Garden of Happy Memories beside the show office.
To date, the fund has provided three bursaries, plus donations to the David Foster Injured Riders' Fund, the Riding for the Disabled classes at this year’s Horse Show and to Festina Lente in Bray.
The dedication on what will surely be called Tommy’s seat reads: “In memory of nine-time Dublin Champion Tommy Brennan, presented by his friends.”
Everyone is invited to the dedication ceremony on Thursday of Horse Show week at noon.
