Two legs of the Horseware/ TRM Grand Prix league were held last weekend, in Kildare and Kilkenny. In Kildare, 45 riders took on course builder Tom Holden’s track at the Katherine A Gallagher Show, held in Coilóg Equestrian Centre. Ten competitors went clear and into the jump-off, where Kilkenny’s Vincent Byrne took the top spot with James Weldon’s 10-year-old Gelding by ARD VDL Douglas. The Michael Meller Style Award in memory of Mary Duff was presented to Lisburn lady Patricia Stewart. The selection criteria for the winning rider was based on performance and attitude inside and outside the ring.

The following day, Thomastown was the venue for the third leg of the league and Greg Broderick was back on form with Noel Cawley’s mare Rincarina. A faultless round over Pat Hutchinson’s course was just enough to edge out Vincent Byrne and Mr Rockerfeller by half a second. Alexander Butler also kept up his challenge for the title, claiming third place on Will Wimble, while local man Ger O’Neill took three of the top 10 placings with his string.
The league now moves to Barnadown for the fourth leg on 11 May.
