The inaugural Irish Astronomy Week takes place from 20-26 March, with indoor and outdoor events around the country.
The theme of Irish Astronomy Week is “The Stars for Everyone”, with the aim of the week being to promote an appreciation and understanding of the night sky.
The Skellig Coast Dark Sky Festival will also run during Irish Astronomy Week. Following from a successful first outing last year, this year’s festival will run from 24-26 March.

Festival events and activities will take place across the Iveragh Peninsula. On Friday 24 March, Derrynane House and Gardens will host an evening of stargazing, with tales from Eastern European Astro-folklore.
Events on Saturday 25 March include: an astrophotography workshop, where Marty McCormack and Keith Levins of Astrophotography Club Ireland will teach participants about night-time photography. An archaeology talk at Eightercua Stone Row with historian Dr Eoin O’Neill will wrap up the festival on Sunday 26 March. The stones here align with the setting sun during the winter solstice, associating it with the night sky.
