Barney Greene has done it again, with a well-organised tractor run in early January that raised €5,500 for St Francis Hospice, Raheny. This year, Barney – from Lusk, north Dublin – completed his eight-tractor road run. In the years since he started in 2008, he has raised €58,850 for the hospice charity, surely an impressive and unselfish job of work.
Barney’s most recent run attracted 80 tractors, with 151 new tractors running the country roads of north Dublin, alongside his own 1952 Ferguson 20 TVO that still purrs like a contented cat.
His organisation is what sets the event apart and with the support of the local gardaí, he and his volunteer team have run another successful event. Barney leads the run each year with his well-dressed 1964 Fordson Dexta diesel. Once the command is for the off, Barney takes the lead and the rest follow as he sets a pace with the lively Dexta.
This year, he added the extra dimension of a charity auction/raffle and, with the support of local businesses, this part produced a rewarding €1,400 towards the overall fund for the hospice.
Here, we bring you some of the photos from the event with an online video of the run on our website.
