Topping the days trading at 3,900 guineas (£4,095 GBP or €5,805) was a Limousin bull from Jonathan and Jeremy Aiken, Dromara. This was realised for a March 2014-born son of Swarland Eddie, out of a Wilodge Vantastic cow. This well-made entry also stood top of the line in the judging ring when Neil Barclay tapped him out as breed champion.

The Aiken’s Cloughead Umpire son attracted a final call of 3,400 guineas in the sale ring.

Simmental bulls reached 3,200 guineas paid to S&P McDonald, Tempo, for “Coolcran Fiesta” who was placed male champion for this breed. He was snapped up by the judge and now travels to Aberdeenshire.

Close behind this at 3,000 guineas were a pair of Charolais bulls which sold for 3,000 guineas each. The first of these to hit the ring was “Ballyvaddy Jabbar” from William McVey, Carnlough. Also realising 3,000 guineas was a son of Conval Frank from Ian Rea, Crumlin.

There were a number of lots purchased for export, including the greatly admire British Blue senior bull “Hillview Idea” from Peter Stratton. It took a 3,000 guineas bid via telephone to secure him for buyer Mark Hodgson, Cumbria.

Females also attracted brisk bidding, with prices reaching 3,150 guineas paid for a super Charolais from Joe Wilson an son, Rathfriland. This was paid for a daughter of their stock bull Newhouse Voodoo, and out of a Sportsman Columbo dam. The buyer here was 10-year-old Lucy Rodgers, Dromara, who was purchasing her first Charolais female.
