Prices started at €2,000 and topped €5,000 at the Charolais Society’s show and sale in Tullamore last Saturday. A steady trade saw 73% of the bulls that were on offer selling for on average €3,369.
The championship sash and top price of the day, at €5,000, went to Toome Harry, a Limekiln Bosco son, bred by Patrick Delaney, Toome, Ballymahon, Co Longford. Out of a homebred dam by Prime Roberto, he was purchased by Thomas Kerin, Abbey House Farm, Bellharbour, Co Clare.
In reserve was Bonnavella Humphrey, exhibited by Martin Killeen, Ballymakea Beg, Mullagh, Co Clare. By Prime Roberto and out of an Oscar-bred dam, he has five stars for terminal index and four stars for replacement index, while also boasting 119 for muscle – which puts him in the top 5% of the breed. With a skeletal score of 140, he is also in the top 1% of the breed for skeletal. At €4,100, he was bought by Rosemary Murphy, Ballbinaby, Hackballscross, Dundalk, Co Louth.
Also at €4,100 was Kilvilcorris Hermes, bred by Matt and PJ Ryan, Clonismullen, Drom, Borrisoleigh, Thurles. By Doonally New and out of a homebred dam by Royal Viscount, he was purchased by Brian Blackmore, Rathaleek House, Kilkenny. He has four and a half stars for both terminal and replacement indexes. The Ryan duo had three bulls at the sale that totalled €11,100.
Meanwhile, the third bull at €4,100 was Rosemount Hulk, exhibited by Seamus Daly, Ballinlig, Rosemount.
