"A sale average the likes we have not been seen before" is how auctioneers Harrison and Hetherington described the Ladies in Red Limousin sale at Ballymena Livestock Mart on Saturday 23 August, as 26 heifers hit the market to set a new record average of £7,386 (€8,558).
Held in conjunction with MartEye, the pre-sale show was judged by Paul Tippets of the renowned Wilodge herd in the UK.
Topping the trade and matching the record price for a Limousin heifer sold in Northern Ireland at 25,000gns (€30,418) was Nugent Allspice ET from Nugent Estate and Farm Ltd.
The youngest heifer in the catalogue at just over eight months old, Allspice is out of Huntershall Nutcracker and the Ampertaine Elgin daughter Grahams Overlynice, which descends from the legendary Milbrook Gingerspice.
Having picked up the reserve junior champion title, this single carrier of the NT821 and Q204X genes was secured by Gareth Corrie in Newtownards.
Elgin daughter
Intermediate and reserve overall champion Ampertaine Villie ET was next best at 18,000gns (€21,900) for James McKay.
Descending from a cow family which has produced bulls to 35,000gns, Villie is a July 2024-born daughter of the formidable Ampertaine Elgin. Wrapping up this double-Q204X carrier was David Evans in Wales.

A daughter of Huntershall Rodman and Draperhill Nicholette, this stylish yearling heifer also carries two copies of the Q204X gene.
A bid of 15,000gns (€18,250) secured the reserve intermediate champion Cranmoney Vee for a herd based in Ballymena.
Graiggoch Rambo
Brought out by Malachy McCartan, this Graiggoch Rambo daughter is out of the homebred dam Cranmoney Redlady and went to auction with one copy of both the F94L and Q204X genes.
Graiggoch Rambo was also behind the senior champion Jalex Vivid, which went under the hammer at 10,000gns (€12,167) for James Alexander.
Her dam Jalex Missy is a daughter of Bassingfield Hobama and has bred bulls to 26,000gns.
