Saturday 12 September saw the Zwartbles Sheep Breeders of Ireland (ZSBI) official show and sale at Midland and Western Mart, Carrick-on-Shannon.
Woodfield ‘Pink Pony Club,’ a ewe lamb from Colin Stephenson, Co Wicklow, was picked by judge Sam Watson from the Beechbrook flock in Northern Ireland in the pre-sale show as overall champion.
The ewe lamb also went on to achieve the top sale price of €1,000.
She heads across the Irish Sea to Nicola Henderson from the Aquila flock in Stirling, Scotland.
Overall reserve champion was a ram lamb from Alan Scott, called Templeboy Prince. It realised €800, topping the male trade, and heads to Co Cavan with Cillian Faulkner.
Other notable prices came from the Twilight Blaze flock, selling two shearling ewes – Twilight Blaze Nikolia and Twilight Blaze Nessia – for €800.
The first of these was knocked down to Emma and Michaela Hanley, Co Roscommon, and the second heads to Co Sligo with Alan Scott.
Finn Valley Preacher, a ram lamb from Wesley McKane, reached €520.
Females averaged €430 with a clearance rate of 68%, while males averaged €530 with a clearance rate of 50%.
The ZSBI society said: “We extend our sincere thanks to all our vendors and purchasers for their support during what was a challenging trading day.”
