I see that Elivia, France’s second largest beef processor – and part-owned by Dawn Meats – has appointed a new chief executive. Stéphane Deschamps is replacing Guy Wermeister, who got the Dawn deal over the line in 2014. A beef processing expert, Deschamps has been the €1bn company’s industrial manager for many years and he most recently oversaw the redevelopment of the company’s flagship boning hall in Angers in France, making it the largest in the country.

Deschamps is also Elivia’s representative on the board of the industry marketing body France Viande Export, which is openly modelled on Bord Bia.

Deschamps’ next job will be to steer Elivia through Dawn’s decision as to whether it will increase its stake in the firm from 49% to 70% by next year, while maintaining the momentum of improving profitability.
