I see Kilkenny farmers are getting their radio show back. In April, we reported that the Farm Show on KCLR, presented with aplomb by Matt O’Keeffe, was being discontinued. The good news is that it’s coming back this evening, in its familiar 7pm Thursday slot, and will be repeated on Sunday mornings at 6am.
Now, with Glanbia on board as the new sponsors, the show is in a stronger position than ever.
I hear that Kilkenny IFA chair John Bambrick was relentless in his lobbying on behalf of the show’s restitution. KCLR chief executive John Purcell said that the changes made, which replaced the show with farm news coverage across general drivetime programming, did not meet the needs of the farming community. “We have listened to the feedback and are very pleased to be able to reintroduce the programme,” he said.

It’s a rare and refreshing example of an Irish person in authority willing to accept that a decision may have been a mistake and to reverse it.
