With the heat of battle over, on Friday night in Loughrea Joe Healy’s friends and supporters turned out in their hundreds to celebrate his victory in the IFA presidential election.
They were joined by people from every IFA executive in the country in a great show of unity for the association.
Speeches were short and few in number and the theme was very much about looking to the future.

At one stage, runner-up Henry Burns ruefully remarked that while he is younger than Joe, people kept talking about the “young fella” from Galway. Quick as a flash Joe Healy quipped back, “take up shearing – best thing to keep you looking young”.
