The Dealer was intrigued this week to hear that Larry Goodman’s ABP food group is offering its British suppliers a guaranteed minimum beef price of £3.50/kg for R-grade steers. At current exchange rates, the price agreement, which runs until March/April translates, to the equivalent Irish price of €4.70/kg. With Larry offering his Irish farmers a minimum price of just €3.90/kg for the same quality animals over the same period, it looks like ABP is keen to maintain a large British and Irish price differential into next year.
