A major solar farm spanning Kerry and Limerick is among a series of large-scale renewable energy projects currently progressing through the planning system in the region.

Circal Bann Solar Limited is seeking permission for a solar farm covering approximately 606ac, with 433ac in Kerry and 173ac in Limerick.

The company is seeking 10-year planning permission for the development, which would have an operational life of 40 years. Separate applications have been made to Kerry and Limerick county councils for the portions within their respective jurisdictions.

A second major solar development is proposed in north Kerry by Moyvane Solar Farm Limited.

Covering approximately 672ac, the project would include solar arrays, 27 transformer units and associated infrastructure. A decision is due on 8 October.

In Longford, BNRG Carrowroe Limited is proposing a solar farm covering approximately 363ac, with an estimated grid export capacity of up to 85MW.

Patricks Rock Solar Ltd is seeking permission for a 373ac solar development in Tipperary, while Eirgen Power Limited is proposing a 40ac solar farm in Roscommon, with an estimated export capacity of around 10MW. All of the projects propose an operational lifespan of 40 years.
