Waterford farm owned by Coolmore sells for more than €4m

Carriglea Farm, a 203ac holding near Dungarvan, Co Waterford has been sold to two established local dairy farmers.

While the exact price paid for the farm is not known, it is believed to be in excess of its original €4m asking price.

Prior to its purchase by the Magnier family's Coolmore in 2015, the land was owned and farmed for over a century by the Sisters of Bon Saveur.

In recent years, it has been used for crop cultivation.

According to auctioneer Brian Gleeson who handled the sale, there was significant interest in the holding, which was put on the market by Coolmore at the beginning of the year.

“We were delighted with the level of interest generated when the property was launched and [are] particularly pleased that the holding has been acquired by two local dairy farmers who have a strong understanding of the quality and potential of the land,” he said.

Local community contribution

“It is a very positive outcome for the area that a farm of this calibre and scale is remaining in local agricultural ownership.”

As part of the transaction, the Magnier family made a contribution to the local community by gifting a section of the parcel to the local Brickey Rangers GAA Club.

Carriglea Farm is the second substantial holding sold in Waterford in recent weeks, following news last month that Mark Zuckerberg had completed the sale of the 440ac Strancally Estate in the county.
