Renewable developer Circal Bann Solar Limited has applied for planning permission for a solar farm set to cover more than 600ac.

More than 20 landowners are involved in a proposed 606ac solar farm development spanning the Kerry-Limerick border.

Of the overall development, approximately 173ac would be located in Co Limerick and 433ac in Co Kerry, and requires two separate planning applications.

The company is seeking a 10-year planning permission for the development, which would have an operational lifetime of 40 years.

The Limerick element of the proposed development is located at Ballygoghlan, Glin, Co Limerick with a decision due by 27 September 2026.

The 173ac Limerick section would include up to 219,706.1sqm of solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays on ground-mounted metal frames.

The remaining 433ac of the proposed solar farm would be located in Co Kerry. The Kerry section would extend across the townlands of Kilmurrily, Tarmonhill, Bauragoogeen, Leitrim East, Tarmon East, Shanaway East and Shanaway West.
