Drumleek Farm, located in Drumleek North, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, is offering 300 Easycare sheep for sale on 27 August at 6.30pm.

While there are numerous Easycare flocks offering female replacements and rams for sale, this is the first significant sale taking place under the mart auction process.

The sale is being held in conjunction with Carnaross Mart but will take place on farm (eircode A75HC04) with bidding on site and online through the LSL Mart app.

The offering includes 100 ewe lambs, 80 ewe hoggets, 80 three-year-old ewes, 20 full-mouth ewes and 15 rams. Ewes will be offered for sale in groups of 10.

New Zwartbles association set for first premier

Originally the Zwartbles Sheep Association – Southern Ireland Branch (ZSA-SIB), due to Brexit the Irish Zwartbles Sheep Association (IZSA) was formed in 2021. This was to ensure all pedigree Zwartbles could be entered in an EU flock book.

With Brexit looming the IZSA secured a flock book with Sheep Ireland and has now established a database for the breed in Ireland.

The IZSA has also applied for pedigree and zoo technical recognition for the breed in Ireland with the Department of Agriculture.

In the meantime, the newly formed association is hosting its first premier show this Saturday 21 August in Tullamore. The pre-sale show will take place at 12pm, with the sale following at 2pm.

Ballinclea Aubrac reduction sale tops €3,150

The Ballinclea Aubrac reduction sale for Lionel and Ernest Mackey took place on the home farm in Co Wicklow earlier this month.

Auctioneer Tom Cox was kept in action throughout, with 100% of the lots on offer finding new homes.

Cow and calf teams made from €2,250 to €3,150, with in-calf cows and heifers ranging from €2,000 to €2,800. Yearling maiden heifers performed particularly well, selling from €1,650 to €2,300.

In total, five cattle were exported to Cornwall in the UK, with the remaining lots being sold to the north, south, east and west of Ireland.

The leading price of €3,150 was for a 2019-born daughter of the 2015 champion of champions, Ballinclea Babbette.

The second high-seller at €3,100 came from the same bloodline.

Irish Blue Texel Society announces second sale

The Irish Blue Texel Society has announced that it will hold a second sale in Roscrea Mart, Co Tipperary, on 11 September.

There is an expected entry of 80 to 100 ram lambs, ewe lambs, shearling ewes and shearling rams.

The move to hold a second sale is stemming from significant growth in the society and a larger than anticipated entry of sheep for its premier sale, which takes place on 21 August (show at 10am, sale at 12.30pm) in the Showgrounds in Carrick-On-Shannon, Co Leitrim.

There are 100 pedigree Blue Texel and Dassenkop shearling ewes, shearling rams, ram lambs and ewe lambs entered in this sale.

The society was formed three years ago and has grown quickly to reach 30 members.
