Auctioneer Denis Howell, Warren Estates, Gorey, got his 2016 auction season off to a flying start when he sold an 18.8-acre parcel of land at Kilmurray, Gorey, Co Wexford, for €19,100/acre last week.

Kilmurray is a highly-sought after area of Gorey, just a couple of minutes from Tara Hill.

Consequently, property in the area generally tends to command top dollar and this was clearly evident at last week’s public auction.

Before a crowd of 20 people, Denis opened the bidding at €200,000, which quickly moved in €20,000 increments to €320,000. After a short recess, Denis was instructed to declare the farm on the market at €320,000 and four bids later, dropped the hammer at €360,000 to a local dairy farmer who has land in the Kilmuray area.

The underbidder was also a farmer from the Gorey region.

Laid out in two grass fields, the land is reported to be “as dry as a bone” and has direct access onto the Kilmurray road.

The property was guided at circa €260,000 or €14,000/acre prior to auction.
