Talk of the Town, the well-renowned pub in Kilteggan, was the centre stage for two very fruitful auctions for auctioneer David Quinn recently.

Two smaller holdings located in Portrushen and Tinnaclash near Kilteggan both sold, with the land at Portrushen making an extraordinary €295,000 or almost €19,700/ac.

Up to 80 people packed into the pub to see what turned out to be a pair of eventful auctions.

The sale

The first of the holdings, the aforementioned 15 acres at Portrushen, Kiltegan was offered in two lots.

A derelict house on 0.8 acre was guided at €75,000 and four bidders pushed the price to €80,000 until it sold under the hammer.

Fifteen acres at Portrushen in Wicklow made an extraordinary €295,000 or almost €19,700/ac.

The second lot, almost 14 acres, opened it’s doors at €100,000 or €7,150/ac.

Guided at €140,000 or €10,000/ac, it ended up selling at €210,000 or €15,000/ac to a local dairy farmer.

The second holding was 20 acres at Tinnaclash near Kilteggan.

This farm contains potentially good ground but needed attention in parts.

An adjoining farmer opened the bidding at €100,000 or €5,000/ac before it was withdrawn. It was sold afterwards to the same farmer for a higher sum.

According to agent David Quinn, it was a very popular result. This was an executors sale for the late Peter Fagan.
