A new ram sale offering Charollais, Suffolk and Texel rams with top terminal genetics is taking place on Saturday 5 September at 1pm in GVM Tullamore Mart in Co Offaly.
The inaugural sale is a coming together of the Irish Charollais Sheep Society, the Irish Texel Sheep Society and the South of Ireland Suffolk Sheep Society.
There are 160 rams catalogued from many of the country’s top breeders. Suffolk rams make up the entry from lot one to 53, followed by Texel rams in lots 54 to 110 and Charollais rams in lots 111 to 160.
A representative from the organising committee told the Irish Farmers Journal: “This newly established sale represents a significant investment of resources by the representative breed organisations, with the aim of giving farmers greater choice, convenience and access to quality terminal stock rams in a central location.
"And with the majority of entries Sheep Improvement Scheme eligible, there will be plenty of choice for farmers looking to invest in quality genetics for the coming season,” they said.
Inspected
The representative added that all rams will be veterinary and society inspected prior to the sale, stating that there is many added benefits of the sale.
“Top rams from three breeds will be available under the one roof in the middle of the country. If you can’t make the sale for any reason then bidding is available through the LSL online sales platform.
If you don’t have a trailer then don’t let that stop you – we will assist with arranging transport for your new ram giving you the freedom to bid with confidence.”
