Northern Ireland-based manufacturer SlurryKat is well known for its innovative slurry equipment such as tankers, agitators and umbilical systems. An area where it is less renowned for is its growing trailer range, which includes the Proline, Grassline and Farmline silage and grain trailers, Quarryline dump trailers, flatbed trailers and now a new range of low loaders to complete the package.

The growing construction economy over the past two years has seen an increase in the demand for new and used construction equipment both north and south of the border and ultimately the need for low loaders to transport them to and from site. This made SlurryKat look at their range already available and set about developing a new series of tractor-drawn low loaders.

The new range consists of two models – an 18ft flat with 5ft beavertail 16t tandem axle version and a 22ft flat with 5ft beavertail 24t tri-axle version. SlurryKat also offers other sizes to suit customer requirements as well as a bespoke engineering service to further tailor the trailer to suit your needs.

It should be noted that the weights quoted according to SlurryKat are net payloads for each model and not the gross weight as commonly seen with other trailer manufacturers.

Chassis

Full-length high-tensile steel H beams are used to construct the chassis, which SlurryKat claims allows for better chassis performance when heavily loaded. High-tensile steel is also used in all the cross members and side supports which run along each side of the bed. These are manufactured from laser-cut high-tensile steel rather than the conventional approach of channel section.

This allows the track width of the high-speed axles to be maximised and gives a lower floor and centre of gravity which aids stability when towing. For extra grip when loading machinery and equipment, thread plating is used on the beavertail and hydraulic ramps which are standard and are controlled via a hydraulic valve located at the rear.

Underneath the chassis, high-speed 11t 70km/h specification axles are used as standard on both models in either tandem or tri-axle configurations with optional 13t 105km/h versions available. These axles are fitted with new 215/17 wheels and mated to a spring suspension system for improved stability and ride comfort on the rough Irish roads. Up front, the drawbar is also fully sprung to reduce the shock transferred to the towing tractor and is fitted with a high-tensile towing ring for improved durability and safety.

Lighting

For added safety on the road, all SlurryKat trailers are fitted with full LED lighting systems which consist of rear combination lights, front and side markers and a rear amber strobe. Stopping is handled by air and hydraulic brakes which are standard spec to satisfy the current trailer regulations when travelling at 50km/h, whereas ABS is available as an option when travelling at 60km/h or above.

To complete the package, each trailer is finished in a two-pack high durable paint in the company’s trademark red and green, while custom colours are available as an option.

A front headboard and toolbox with stainless steel hinges, and integrated tie-down points are fitted as standard as well as a bucket well in the beavertail to reduce the overall jib height when transporting an excavator.

Completing the package, all low loaders are fitted with rear mud flaps and a galvanised trailer stand.

Optional extras include outriggers, adjustable hitch height and cheese wedge to turn the low loader into a flat trailer as well as front bale rack and hardwood mahogany floor.

The new range of low loader trailers is suitable for a range of applications such as machinery and equipment transport, bale handling applications as well as potato box transport to name a few.
