SJI to fill vacancies after Blake resignation

Showjumping Ireland is expected to fill several vacant positions at their next meeting of the Executive Committee next Tuesday, 18 June, following the sudden resignation of chair Michael Blake.

Blake tendered his

resignation from the role of SJI chair last Friday afternoon citing time pressures and a need to now concentrate fully on his role as development manager of Ireland’s international show jumping teams as his reasons for departure.

Other SJI vacancies to be filled include the chair’s seat on the Management and Finance committee, recently occupied by Mary Reape who remains on the committee and the chair’s seat on the veterinary committee, vacated by Hugh McCusker.

SJI vice chair Eamonn Rice is now temporarily in charge of the Executive Committee.

Spancil Hill date

Traditionally, the Spancil Hill Fair has never been held on a Sunday. Hence this year, when its usual date of 23 June falls on a Sunday, the Fair has been moved to Monday, 24 June. The Fair will again host well funded showing classes for Cobs, Coloured Horses, Connemaras, 128 and 138 ponies plus donkeys.

On the Sunday, there will again be the usual ‘night before’ the Fair fun events in the field behind Duggan’s Pub that include a donkey derby and hay bale rolling.
