Cian O’Connor added another national Grand Prix victory to his record sheet as he took the honours last Sunday in the Gain/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix league at Portmore Equestrian Centre in Co Armagh.

Riding the eight-year-old Numero Uno-sired gelding Quick Shine, O’Connor left his rivals behind as he lodged the winning round of clear 41.76 seconds. This was the second good result for Quick Shine on the national Grand Prix circuit, having finished fourth with his owner Lillie Keenan at the round in The Meadows.

Meanwhile, the nine-year-old Sam du Challois has joined O’Connor’s stable. The stallion by Quaprice Bois Margot Quincy and Adam Iv’de Cote d’Or has been trained by French show jumper Ludovic Gaudin since he was a four-year-old.

Two of O’Connor’s riders took their place in the lineup, taking home the lion’s share of the £4,000 in The Equestrian Store Portadown-sponsored class.

Course designer Rafael Suarez built a fair track for the 41 combinations, with nine proceeding to the jump-off.

Ross Mulholland set the bar high when he lodged a clear in 42.19 with Ahmed Du Calvaire, which later saw him take the runner-up spot. Lillie Keenan occupied third place as she partnered Super Sox to a clear in 43.25.

Dermott Lennon proved that the time could be beaten when he galloped through the beams in 36.27 with Gelvins Touch, but it came at a price as they faulted to finish fourth. Lennon also accounted for fifth place when he faulted once with Fleur IV in 38.63.

Placed second in Cavan last week, Sophie Dalm was keen to add points to her tally. Although Dalm opted on the side of caution with Remake Lande, four faults in 44.23 meant that she finished sixth. There is no change in the top spot on the board, with John Floody still leading on 24 points. O’Connor shares second place with Cormac Hanley (20 points), while Dalm is in third on 15 points.
