Gordon Elliott failed on his drive for five in the Ladbrokes Troytown Chase at Navan on Sunday, but the valuable prize stayed in Meath as Noel Meade sent out the winner Tout Est Permis.
Meade, who lives six miles from Navan racecourse, was bridging a 21-year gap to Heist, his previous winner in the race. The Castletown trainer has started the season in very good form and was sweet on the chances of the Gigginstown House Stud-owned five-year-old, who always travelled well and won comfortably in the hands of stable jockey Sean Flanagan.
Elliott had 12 of the 25 runners, but could only do as good as fifth through Out Sam. The 50/1 shot Mr Diablo performed with great credit for trainer Philip Dempsey in second, while Magic Of Light’s third place finish formed part of a very good day for Jessica Harrington, who recorded a hat-trick elsewhere on the card.

Jetz kicked off the sequence with a win in the usually informative beginners chase before Walk To Freedom, who had been off the track for 484 days prior to his previous run, returned to winning ways in the Proudstown Handicap Hurdle. Barrington Court signed off the card for the Moone-based trainer, winning a listed mares’ bumper in fine style.
