The 42km Great Western Greenway is Ireland’s longest off-road walking and cycling trail, following the old Westport to Achill railway. Stop to eat and enjoy Mulranny and Newport on your way to Achill Island.
Climb Croagh Patrick

Five miles from Westport, Croagh Patrick rises to 750m (2,500ft). Reek Sunday, the last Sunday in July, is when more than 20,000 people climb Croagh Patrick in a pilgrimage to honour St Patrick. Some even do it barefoot as an act of penance.
Wade into watersports
Westport is a haven for watersports like surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, kayaking and scuba diving. The fastest growing watersport in the area is stand-up paddle boarding, a traditional Hawaiian sport that combines a surfboard and a long one-handed paddle.
Get on board
Clew Bay is said to have 365 islands, one for every day of the year. There are multiple boat trips around Clew Bay to explore the islands, coves and beaches. Try a spot of seal watching, take a sailing lesson on a keelboat or go sea angling.
