Irish young riders dominated the SJI National Grand Prix at Barnadown last Sunday. Darragh Ryan won the class with Deep Pockets and Jack Ryan filled the runner up position with Cavalier Teaca, an 11-year-old mare owned by Marguerite Ryan.

Capt. Geoff Curran riding Dollanstown finished third. The top three finishers all posted double-clears and finished with less than two seconds between them.

ISH Studbook Series

Barnadown hosted the second leg of the ISH Studbook Show Jumping Series, where there was prize money of €9,500 up for grabs.

James Hogg claimed the seven-year-old final with Edgar Hogg’s homebred gelding Intuitive by Beech Ball and out of the Andiamo Z sired mare, Sandiamo. Francis Connors filled second place with the Suzanne Macken’s Luidam (KWPN) mare Tara.

The five-year-old class was divided between Jessica Burke (Orestus Clover), Jason Higgins (Seeking Fortune), Cathal McMunn (Rossa Lough Derg), Maria Vozone (Cuffesgrange Corleone) and Sophie Richards (Luxie B).

The six-year-old class was also divided, the winnings were shared between Sophie Richards (Be The One), Derek McConnell (Longfield Quinlui), Jack Ryan (Bbs McGregor) and Cathal McMunn (Lucidam). The third leg of the ISH Studbook Series will take place in Cavan this weekend.

Leinster Summer Tour

The first round of the the 1.35m Mervue Equine Leinster Summer Tour attracted 60 entries to Barnadown.

Paddy O’ Donnell and Joanna Rimmer’s 16-year-old gelding Minority Report claimed victory in the Cooper International Horse Transport-sponsored class. This is the second good result for this pairing of late, having won the penultimate round of the Connolly’s Redmills Spring Tour at Warrington. Irish-bred horses dominated the final line-up.
