A top price of €4,700 was recorded at the second round of the Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society February bull sale in Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday.

With a selection of Angus, Hereford and Shorthorns entered, trading throughout the day can be described as tough, but not any more so than was expected.

The well-publicised fodder problem in the west and northwest was the main contributing factor.

However, the sale did witness one high late on in the sale when the Aberdeen Angus champion Corlismore Proud Boss sold for the day’s top price of €4,700.

Five stars

This bull, exhibited by the McKiernan family, was sired by Rawburn Boss Hogg and out of the homebred Corlismore Lilly.

Carrying five stars down the line, Proud Boss had two bidders locked in before he was sold to an undisclosed buyer.

Overall, 62% of the bulls sent forward were sold, with an average price of €2,300.
