Auctions that were due to take place towards the end of the month have either been postponed or switched to private treaty as a result of COVID-19 restrictions. However, some properties were sold at auction during the month of March.

Clare

Thirty-six acres at Clonina, Cree, Co Clare, were sold on 20 March for €325,000 (€9,027/ac). The auctioneer, Pat Considine, said that this would be a good price for the property, which has a slatted shed and outbuildings.

“It is the first public auction of land in Clare in 2020,” Considine told Irish Country Living. “The buyer is a local beef farmer. When auctioneer Aidan Carroll sold this property 30 years ago, it made £65,000.”

Westmeath

A 71ac residential property at Ballyscarvan, Moate, Co Westmeath, sold under the hammer for €612,000 (€8,620/ac) on 5 March. The property is understood to have sold to a dairy farmer and includes a five-bedroom farmhouse. The joint agents on the sale were GVM Auctioneers, Tullamore, and Kearney Auctioneers, Athlone.

Offaly

A 41ac farm at Knockhill, Kilcormac, Co Offaly, went to auction on 6 March. There were no bids on the day, but the farm sold a week later, a spokesperson on behalf of the selling agents GVM, Tullamore said.

Longford

A 107ac property at Kilcourcey, Cartroncor and Tully, near Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, was due to be sold in an online auction on 27 March. However, due to the uncertainty of the market, the property was withdrawn just before the auction. It will be brought to auction at a later date, auctioneer John Earley of Property Partners Earley, Roscommon, said.
