Straw, hay, fodder beet and silage prices

There is continued demand for straw, especially in wetter areas, as not all stock are turned out. While some 4x4 bales are still being bought for €8 in surplus areas, most farmers are now looking for €10 to €12/bale out of the shed. Many farmers in the west are paying €16 to €20/bale, depending on destination. You can still buy 8x4x3 bales for €20 to €22 out of the shed. A small number of round bales of silage are moving at €16 to €18 each. Beet, in piles in fields is in demand due to poor grass growth. It is trading from €30 to €35/t out of the piles.
