On Monday, Manorhamilton Mart hosted its weanling bull show and sale with over 300 bulls on offer. There was an outstanding show of top-quality cattle, which resulted in a 98% clearance.

The standard was tough in the show, with the champion bull a Belgian Blue-cross weighing 520kg and selling for the top price of €3,260 (€6.27/kg).

Trade for the heavier bulls had better bite in this week’s sale with bulls weighing over 500kg selling from €4.50/kg upwards for quality lots.

Weanling bulls weighing between 400kg and 500kg saw better demand with a number of customers both online and ringside. These bulls averaged around the €5/kg mark, with some of the better-quality lots mainly Charolais-cross bulls selling over €6/kg.

As is the case around the country, the trade for the 300kg to 400kg bull weanling is the highlight of most sales and Manorhamilton was no different. Weanling bulls of this weight made up the bulk of the offering, with these bulls averaging €5.50/kg, with several bulls crossing the €6/kg mark. A number of quality Charolais-cross bulls weighing from 300kg to 330kg sold for over €7/kg.

The next weanling sale is on 28 September.
