Breeding has finished for the spring-calving herd, although cows have yet to be scanned. Scanning will be carried out when cows come in for the annual TB test in July.

The dry weather really suits my farm, so much so, that I intend removing surplus excess grass from re-seeded paddocks later this week. Young stock are grazing these paddocks.
With dry ground conditions, I took the opportunity to spike the silage ground after the first cut was harvested in May.
This will hopefully improve grass growth and help to improve natural drainage on these fields. Slurry and fertiliser has since been applied and closed off for second cut.

Young bulls are coming fit for slaughter at CAFRE's development centre, with 12 animals slaughtered to date. Carcase weight averaged 374kg at 13.8 months, giving a daily carcase gain of 0.9kg/day from birth. Carcase conformation averaged U-4-.
Cattle are now being buffer-fed silage to lengthen the grazing rotation. Replacement heifers were served to fixed time AI and out of 24 seven animals were served for a second time.
