Prices peaked at 5,800gns (€7,016) at the October Native Breeds Sale in Dungannon Livestock Mart on Friday 3 October.

It was a smaller than usual entry, with just six Hereford (three heifers and three bulls) and four Aberdeen Angus bulls catalogued.

All four Angus bulls sold averaging 3,450gns (€4,172), with just two Hereford bulls finding new homes. However, it was the Hereford bull Rossdowney 1 Buster, which topped the sale for the Derry-based Russell and Ryan Kelly.

It was the pair’s debut showing a Hereford at the sale and it proved one to remember, as the April 2024-born son of the former Tullamore Show Champion Solpoll 1 Lawman achieved the reserve overall champion and the highest price on the day.

His dam, Ballypallady 1 Showstopper, is a foundation female the brothers purchased to begin their newly established herd. Buying Buster as a junior stockbull for his pedigree herd was Trevor Andrews in Larne.

The January 2024-born Benburb 1 Braveheart got the sale off to a flyer when he sold to R and A Montgomery, Ballymoney, for 4000gns (€4,838). Bred by Alan Shaw, Dungannon, he is sired by Fisher 1 Jaguar from the English bred Cleland 1 Juliet 16th dam.

Taking the Championship was the 18-month-old maiden heifer Sessiagh 1 Billie Ray for Nathanial Shaw, Dungannon. Unfortunately, the Dendor 1 Kohinoor daughter failed to meet her reserve in the sale.

Angus bulls peaked at 3,900gns (€4,717) for Rathmoss Mars A045 brought out by Andrew Fletcher. A son of Rawburn Bastille X456 and Loughans Mertil Y906, this April 2024-born bull was purchased by J and N Hamilton from Co Fermanagh.
