The Dealer, and no doubt every expanding dairy farmer in the country, is salivating at the prospect of a 700ac farm to lease.

Quarry owner and developer Marcus Hanly is offering his farm at Laragan, Elphin, Co Roscommon on a 20-year lease to include some 700ac of grassland, loose and slatted farm buildings for 1,000 cattle and a two-storey traditional farmhouse.

Dairy consultant Mike Brady is handling the lease and has a price tag of €225/ac for the annual rent for the farm, to include all land, buildings and the house. That would total €157,500 per year or €3.15m over 20 years.

The farm is capable of holding a milking herd of 650-700 cows, and will need a parlour, paddock plan and some re-seeding.

Brady is encouraging potential suitors with a track record of successfully running a large dairy unit with several years of accounts to prove it.
