A 55ac farm of good land with a cattle yard and old house is on the market in south Co Wicklow. The farm is known as The Fort and it’s outside Rathdangan. The sale is being handled by REA Dawson and the property will be put up for auction in mid-May. The guide price is €10,000/ac to €12,000/ac.

This is a good farming area. Just 500m from Rathdangan, out in the direction of Aghavannagh, it’s 3km from Baltinglass, 8km from Hacketstown and 34km from Blessington. The holding has frontage on the Rathdangan to Aghavannagh road and has fine views of the Wicklow Mountains including Lugnaquilla.

The farm is in one square-shaped block and laid out in seven main fields. Most of the land is good quality and it is in clean permanent pasture. One small field needs improvement.

The house and yard are together, 200m back from the public road and accessed by a gravel laneway. There are mature trees giving good shelter and privacy.

The main buildings in the large yard include a four-bay slatted unit with capacity for 30 adult cattle. This is modern in design with ventilation openings, a feed rail and concrete feed slab.

There is a wide span, four-bay round-roofed shed with a lean-to on each side. This shed has shuttered concrete walls, concrete floors and a slatted tank at one end.

The house and farmyard are together, 200m from the public road and well sheltered by mature trees.

Both of these sheds are in good working condition. There is also a cattle crush and pens, an open silage pit and concrete open area. There are a number of older, smaller outbuildings beside the house.

The residence is a traditional two-storey farmhouse. It has a sitting room with fireplace, kitchen and bathroom downstairs and three bedrooms upstairs. It needs modernisation.

The auction takes place on Thursday 19 May at 3pm in Mount Wolseley Hotel, Tullow, Co Carlow.
